I was talking to my business partner, Ann Vertel about our different schedules and our ways of making them work for ourselves. She was telling me about how she creates “self-imposed” deadlines for herself. I explained how those have never worked for me, because I was the only one holding myself accountable.
The same day, I was listening to 100 Day Challenge program created by Gary Ryan Blair and he was talking about “self-imposed” deadlines. Okay, now this is one of those moments that I no longer believe is a coincidence.
So, what is a self-imposed deadine? It is an important step in achieving a goal. It is the time-factor that is associated with using the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time) formula for achieving a goal.
Blair states these that these self-enforced deadlines show commitment to achieve and that you are putting yourself in the position of ‘having to perform.” Deadlines create a sense of urgency to accomplish a task.
I plan and schedule my day and put tasks, phone calls, etc. in my calendar to accomplish things by a certain time, which now I realize is a self-imposed deadline. I am now going to take it a step further and use a timer for focused time on projects to increase my productivity.
Start creating deadlines for yourself on accomplishing daily routines, tasks, etc. and let me know what your experience is.
