Ask For What You Want!

smile11You’ve got to ask.  Asking is, in my opinion, the world’s most powerful and neglected secret to success and happiness.
Percy Ross,  Self-made multimillionaire and philanthropist

In Jack Canfield’s book, “The Success Principles,” he writes about people being afraid to ask for what they want, mainly because of the fear of rejection and hearing the word no.

You are getting a no answer, if you don’t ask.  You are making the decision for the other person.  Canfield states, “If they say no, you are no worse off than when you started.  If they say yes, you are a lot better off.”

Think about that a minute.  If you don’t ask for what you want, you are making the decision for the other person.  You are deciding if your product or service is right for them.  You are deciding if now is the right time for them to join your business.

Being successful, means you have to be willing to risk rejection.  Rejection is not about you.  It is about the other person.  It is not personal.

What I found most interesting in this chapter of Canfield’s book is:

Herbert True, a marketing specialist at Notre Dame University, found that

  •  44% of all salespeople quit trying after the first call
  • 24% quit after the second call
  • 14% quit after the third call
  • 12% quit trying to sell their prospect after the fourth call

But, statistics show that 60% of all sales are made after the fourth call!  Obviously, asking one time is not enough.

Learn to ask for what you want with expectation you will get it, instead of assuming that you won’t.

Ask again because when you first asked the person could have been having a bad day, just got bad news, was tired, in a hurry, distracted…

Ask again, because maybe you were asking with the expectation of them saying no, instead of yes.

Write down what you want and then what is stopping you from asking for it.  What is it costing you not to ask?

Be Bold and Ask for what you want!
